FP119 'Wanderer. Mother: FP93, Father: FP79 Born in early April of 2002, FP119 was first handled by panther biologists on April 23, 2002. At that time, he was estimated to be about 18 days old. One of three kittens (he and 2 sisters), he was located in the den of FP93, a 3-year old female Florida panther. He and his sisters were given full medical checkups, and the healthy male kitten was given identification transponder chip number 0001F071E4T and the scientific designation of “K115” (Kitten 115). About one year later, on April 2, 2003, K115 was handled again by biologists when he was captured and fitted with a new radio collar and given a permanent designation as FP119 (Florida panther 119). The collar has allowed scientists to monitor FP119 in the wild over the years, and we know that he makes his home on a large range of land that includes the Florida Panther National Wildlife Refuge, Big Cypress National Preserve, and the Fakahatchee Strand State Preserve. He has fathered at least two litters of kittens, with FP113 and FP140. An active, healthy adult, FP119 is often “captured” on film by trail cameras throughout his range. FP119 is the first panther ambassador for the Friends Adopt-A-Panther program!
